Heath Spracklen was named the 2007 Illinois Auctioneers Association Champion at the 25th Annual Bidcalling Contest held at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on August 14. In order to compete, auctioneers must be members of the ISAA as well as Illinois licensed auctioneers.
Spracklen, from Pana, owns and operates Spracklen Auctioneers. "I was pleasantly surprised when my name was announced as champion,” said Spracklen, “There were some excellent auctioneers competing, and this is quite an honor!”
The auctioneers were judged on their presentation, chant, voice quality, body language and other elements of effective auctioneering.
Spracklen has been in the finals each year he has competed. He is also a former reserve champion of the World Auto Auctioneer competition. He will represent ISAA at the International Auctioneer Championship Contest next July in Nashville, Tenn.
First runner-up was Fred Dunham of DeSoto, second runner-up Jim Hannagan of Gifford, third Gavin Pope, CAI of Raymond, and fourth Jon Bloomberg of Orion. Rounding out the top eight were Alex Belcher, GA, of Buncombe, Josh Hickey of Steward, and Jeff Oberling of Plainville.
The judges said it was the hardest competition they had ever witnessed with 20 outstanding bidcallers.
Spracklen joined five other former bidcalling champions that evening for the Governor's Sale of Champions.
